Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe (2024)

For those of us who make frequent trips to Costco, we are already familiar with the Kirkland brand. They act as Costco’s ‘signature’ label and produce a range of products and foods for the store.

As far as Kirkland or Costco’s ‘own brand’ range goes, their signature Chocolate Chip Cookies have to be some of the best. Deliciously rich and buttery, they are available in a range of flavors including cinnamon, red velvet, and almond.

Their most popular type is the traditional chocolate chip flavor and today we’re going to show you how to make Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookies at home.

How to make Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookies

Table of Contents

This is a fairly standard recipe that anyone who regularly bakes cookies will probably already be familiar with. But it’s also worth keeping in mind that Kirkland makes this style of cookie with many extra toppings.

This can be anything like finely sliced almonds, extra chocolate chips, or even white chocolate drops just to name a few. Feel free to get creative and use this base recipe to add your own delicious toppings and make them your own.

Ingredients:

(30 cookies)

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of softened, salted butter
  • 1 cup of dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cups of chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of nuts (optional)

Instructions:

Following a fairly standard cookie cooking order, you’ll be able to both prepare and bake these cookies in under 30 minutes which is great if you want to make them in bulk.

Don’t worry if you make too many, they are easily stored and can be frozen for later too!

Step 1:

Using a large mixing bowl, add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and butter together. Mix everything until smooth and there is no noticeable roughness to the texture.

This might take a while (and some good forearm dexterity). With an electric mixer, this part will be much easier!

Step 2:

To the butter and sugar mixture add the 2 large eggs and vanilla extract. Mix them together well. You can continue using the electric mixer here too if you wish.

Step 3:

Next, we add the salt and baking soda together and start mixing. Avoid throwing everything in at once to ensure the ingredients are being incorporated into the cookie dough thoroughly before moving on.

Step 4:

We can start adding the flour to the mixture. Incorporate the flour gradually adding just a bit at a time. Mix continuously as you’re adding the flour until it’s all used up and all the ingredients are nicely blended into the mixture.

Step 5:

Add in your choice of chocolate chips (you can also use chocolate chunks), whether it be dark, milk or white, and if you wish to add nuts you can do so at this stage. Mix everything up so those ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Step 6:

At this stage, we can start to preheat the oven to 375°F.

Step 7:

Using a baking tray lined with a cookie sheet (or baking sheet), start to spoon the dough onto the sheet and press it a little to make the cookie shape. Using a cookie scoop is a great idea here if you have one available!

Leave a 2-inch gap between each cookie as they will spread during the baking process.

Step 8:

Bake at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes, but it’s worth keeping an eye on them in case they cook a little faster. Once they are adequately cooked, remove them from the oven and let cool.

Once they are cooled you can either serve them straight away or alternatively store them for later as this recipe will make about 30 cookies!

Ingredient substitutions

As with almost all baked foods, there are a ton of ingredient substitutions that can be made to accommodate both different preferences and dietary requirements.

Not only are many of these replacements perfectly viable in terms of making a great cookie, but many of them can also alter and enhance the flavor to give it its own unique flair.

1. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of the best butter substitutes out there as not only is it a dairy-free alternative, but it also adds in that subtle hint of coconut without being overpowering.

If for any reason you cannot use coconut oil, both margarine and lard make good alternative substitutions.

2. Ground flax

If you’re specifically looking to make vegan cookies, you can substitute 1 egg for 2 tablespoons of ground flax and 3 tablespoons of cold water. Once they are combined you need to let them sit for 10 minutes before adding them to the mixture.

3. Baking powder

This is the best replacement for baking soda, but you will need to use a 3:1 replacement ratio. So this recipe which calls for 1 teaspoon of baking soda will then require 3 teaspoons of baking powder.

What to serve with Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookies

Sure, cookies make a great snack by themselves whether you’re serving them on a plate at a family get-together or sneaking one from the jar 10 minutes before dinner.

But if you want to eat them as a more stand-alone dish, there are plenty of things you can serve them with to both enhance the flavor and eating experience.

Milk

Probably the most obvious choice, as this is a pairing as old as time. Milk and cookies make a perfect combination as the creamy milk accents the buttery cookie flavor.

You can also dip your cookies into warm milk before eating to help soften them up, delicious!

Ice Cream

We’ve all heard of the ice cream sandwich, but you don’t need to buy them pre-made. Why not make your own using your fresh cookies and a nice big dollop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Much like milk, they complement each other exquisitely and also allow you to get creative with different flavor combinations.

Peanut butter

If you’re looking to make your cookies even richer, using a knife to spread a nice, thick layer of peanut butter on is the perfect way to up your cookie game.

Try putting a second cookie on top and making a peanut butter cookie sandwich for the ultimate dessert experience.

How to store Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies can be stored for a good long time, so don’t be afraid to make them in bulk and defrost them later on!

The main thing to watch out for is that we don’t want the cold air to make them get soggy. For this reason, if you eat your cookies within a week it’s recommended not to store them in the fridge.

Instead, just keep them in a nice container and then store them in a dry and cool area of your kitchen.

Store in the fridge

If you need to store cookies for a bit longer the fridge is a great option. Place the cookies in a sealed container or plastic bag and refrigerate. They will last up to two weeks when stored this way.

Store in the freezer

If you need to store them for longer freezing works great as there is not much water content in the cookies.

Ideally, place them in a freezer bag and try to press out all of the air you can before freezing. They will store for 2-3 months this way. To defrost them, simply transfer them from the freezer to the fridge, or to a dry area of your kitchen.
